"The bst 'Indies of 2010"

"As 2010 comes to a close, it's time to take stock of the year in cinema and post the requisite "Best of" list. However, this one won't look like any other you may see. And for good reason. Rules, disclaimers, and those good reasons follow for those who are as passionate about the subject as I am.

I saw approximately 175 films at those festivals, from which I selected 63 movies collectively as Top Picks. This list comes from that universe of favorites.

Like her costar Pattinson, Stewart starred in a non-Twilight film this year. It didn't perform very well though. The Runaways brought in only $4.7 million. The final Twilight book, Breaking Dawn, has been divided into two films that are both sure to be big earners. The first hits theaters in November 2011.

Even if a star has a glam squad on call, it takes a bit of trial and error for a young celebrity to hit on a look that defines her style. We’re highlighting the five ladies whose personal style has become more focused—more directional, as they say in the fashion world— and, frankly, much improved over the last 12 months.
It’s amazing what a year can do. These five ladies took their style from good to great over the past 12 months.

1. Kristen Stewart.

We’re not sure which this self-described tomboy loves more, Robert Pattinson or her stock of grungy flannels and Converse sneakers. When she hit the carpet last winter, her color choices— mostly black, white and, grey numbers—looked harsh against her pale skin. The Oscars was her turning point. She looked youthful and elegant in a curve-hugging Monique Lhuillier with a braided updo and smoky eye makeup. Livelier color choices followed, as did more dramatic makeup that played up her cheekbones and gorgeous green eyes.
